I'm sorry to all of you who love this day, but I am not a fan of the early bird shopping. Last year, I was in Arkansas visiting my relatives for Thanksgiving and it was tradition for the females to go shopping at 4 a.m. for the early bird specials. However, since I was their, I was forced to go. Well, we ended up at Walmart and they handed us a 10$ coupon off anything in the store. Great! I got up at 4 a.m. for 10$ coupon. Seriously people, I'm sure you can get some great deals and many of you girls love the thrill of the rush, but I'm just not feeling it. Camping out all night, pushing and shoving through mass chaos, crazy people running over each other just to get a 10$ discount coupon. I would rather sleep in on my day off and enjoy a hot cup of coffee and a leisurely wakeup. People are already setting up camp at Best Buy here in the Springs. My homesponser said she said some guys outside their tent playing badminton. Wow, I'm sure that whatever deal Best Buy will have will be great, but come on, camping out a week early? I'm sure that this craziness is all fun and thrill, but I'm going to say that I'm a Scroodge when it comes to this fun.

We Need Sleep!

Thank the Lord we've been able to sleep! This weekend has been glorious waking up when there is actually daylight. As a woman, I know I need to get as much sleep as possible, especially if I want to remain healthy. A statistic from sleepdisorder.com states, ""Poll results show that while many Americans enjoy the benefits of sufficient sleep, as many as 47 million adults may be putting themselves at risk for injury, health and behavior problems because they aren't meeting their minimum sleep need in order to be fully alert the next day." I know that I need rest to remain healthy and upbeat. Not only does it affect your health and weaken our immune system, sleep deprivation causes stress and sometimes anger. Other serious affects are memory loss, confusion, diabetes, narcolepsy, irritability or sleep insomnia.

So, staying healthy requires sleeping! I know it seems impossible but, try to get all the sleep you can even if it means cutting out things in your life that might deprive you of sleep. I know for me, chatting on the phone, unwilling or myspacing can cut hours out of my precious sleep time. But, after the past weeks of being sleep deprived and feeling sick, I know the basic remedy for my body is SLEEP!

"Sleep - it's one of life's essentials."

Click this link if you would like to read more about this topic:
http://sleepdisorders.about.com/cs/sleepdeprivation/a/depandhealth.htm

Democrats take the House and Senate

The Democrats have now taken over the Senate and House leaving them much to handle. Not only will they have to deal with the war in Iraq, but also minimum wage, oil dependence, stem cell and many other issues. I am not sure what will happen in the next two years, but I agree with Mr. Beard when he said that the positive side of having the majority Democratic will be in the decisions they make. If things turn south, then hopefully the Republicans will have a stronger chance for the next election. As all other situations, we know God is in control so we should have no fear, but trust in him and know he has a plan.

Are You Voting???

So many Americans complain about the goverment, laws, bills, taxes, healthcare, education, ect., but are they doing anything to change it? Are they utilizing their opportunity to make a difference? I remember when I turned 18 and the November elections took place, my father was very stern about voting. He was very upset with me when he asked if I was going to vote and I said I didn't know. I thought to myself, why should I vote if I have no idea who is running or what their running for? Then, I went to my grandfather's house and he asked me the same question. He gave me a brief history lesson about our fore-founding fathers and how we had to fight for the right to vote. Since he was in WWII, his loyality to his country is very high. I then realized how important my right to vote was, even if it was just one little vote out of many.

Fried Coke?

Obesity in America is bad enough, but now we are introducing a fried beverage? And we wonder why we are so overweight? After observing this article from Yahoo news, I don’t think we can solely blame fast-food restaurants for our obesity. It seems now that many citizens are taking this fried-fanatic into their own homes. The article states, “the deep-fried phenomenon has spread to North Carolina and Arizona". The home of this fried-food-fanatic is none but of course the southern state of Texas. Brian Tracey states in his article, "The Texas fair has long prided itself in offering foods that would make a cardiologist faint. Beginning with now ubiquitous corndog in 1942, the Lone Star State extravaganza has seen Twinkies, cookies and even pickles stuck on a stick, dipped in batter and then deep fried." I really think that America has become fat, because we don't care what we put in our bodies, we just eat whatever tastes good.

If you would like to read more about this article, the link is: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15334588/#storyContinued

Korea calls U.S. sanctions 'gangster-like'

What's the deal? Yes, I said deal. This is SERIOUS STUFF! When browsing Yahoo news, I came across this article claiming that North Korea called our sanctions, "gangster-like actions", and that they were going to take physical retaliation because of these sanctions. U.S. joined with China to try to end the North Korea nuclear program and to enforce the sanctions. I'm not sure what is going to happen, but I'm sure that this is a start to a very scary situation for the U.S. Thank God China is remaining on our side. Before this program, I really had no insight on what was really happening, other than what my liberal co-workers told me. Now, I feel what President Bush is currently doing in Iraq is understandable and wish that more Americans understood the seriousness of the terrorists attacks. I wish that we could go into all the schools and inform the students what is really happening. As a college graduate, I feel the school systems could do a better job on keeping the students up-to-date on the world news. I feel our society lives in such an "American bubble" that we have no idea what to expect in the near future with the war. Through the news briefings of 24/7, I now strongly agree with President Bush's decisions and feel that more Americans should support our government and soldiers.

First Blog!

This is my test blog.
